Sintering Process Optimization for High-Purity Andalusite Based Materials
2025-09-25
The sintering process directly determines the performance of andalusite based refractories. Research from Xi’An University of Architecture and Technology (China), published in Refractories, indicates that high-purity andalusite (such as Xinjiang’s ore) requires precise control of firing temperature and soaking time. Experiments show that raising the firing temperature effectively promotes the mullitization of andalusite—complete mullitization is achieved only when sintered at 1600℃ for 3 hours. To ensure good sintering, low glass phase content, and pure phases, the soaking time should be extended to 6 hours. This optimized process enhances the material’s volume density by 12% and reduces apparent porosity by 8%, making it ideal for blast furnaces and rotary cement kilns that demand high structural integrity .
